Few weeks ago me and Pete could enjoy stunning weather in Corfu. It was warm and sunny days which are called in Greece - Alkyonides Days. It's actually the meteorological phenomen of the central Greek climate. Nearly every year in the period after Christmas until the middle of February there is a non-interrupted period of days with clear blue sky and warm temperature, which can reach more than 20°C over the day. Sounds interesting, isn't it?
According to the Greek Mythology, Alcyone was daughter of Aeolus, god of the winds. She was living on the coast with her husband Ceyx: they were so in love and so happy that sometimes they used to liken them as Zeus and Hera. For their profanity, Zeus transformed Ceyx into a vulture. Alcyone, who didn’t have any idea what had happened to her husband, was running in panic trying to find him. The gods of Olympus realized how badly Alcyone was feeling and transformed her in a sea bird, the known kingfisher. But the distress of Alcyone had no end. In contrary with the other birds which give birth in spring, Alcyone has to do it during the winter. One more time the gods felt sorry and Zeus allowed the sun to shine brightly to warm up the kingfishers to incubate their eggs. That’s why Greeks still call these warm, sunny days of January, Alcyonides days.
Nature shows us that everything in life is an alternation of conditions: good and bad, bad and good weather, life and death. All these conditions indicate that we live in a miracle called "life". The Alcyonides days transfer an optimistic message; that even in a bad situation, there would be good moments which would give us strength and courage. So greek and so romantic, right?
So at this day I could simple walk in my cotton shirt only, however I reinsured and wore Leather Faux Fur Jacket from Zaful. I can't say I'm big fan of black, but I need to admit that sometimes it's simple and practical way to get ready for a fast beach walk.
I remember while I was in school, waistocats were in fashion and I had a huge collection. Nowadays it's not so much on trend, but who knows what will happen next season. Trends are always coming back, aren't they?
