Benefits of Island Life
So many of my friends are dreaming about leaving their home, work and city to live the island life. Well like everything in the world this kind of life has its advantages and disadvantages. Let us miss the negative side of it and concentrate on the benefits of island life personally for my family.
First of all let me start with the fact that my husband Hurry is an absolute local who was born in Corfu and has here all his family: parents and brothers. All of them live pretty close to us and they often contact and see each other. Our son Sebastian also has been born here on the island and even my dog Dominikos was bought at Crete which is the southest island of Greece and Europe in general. I never thought I will live on the island since I am from far Siberia where people hardly dream about places like that. However life is an endless adventure and here I'm - living in Greece for 6 years already and having here my family and home.
Moving to the general positive sides of living on an island I can highlight the following:
1. Sea & sun
When you live on the island you can go to the beach and to swim as many times as you only wish. It's like you have an endless vacation and always can take a car, drive to the sea and relax under the gentle sun. Beach makes me happy because time I spend there reduces stress, boosts creativity and puts me into a mild meditative state. Who knows, maybe I like sea so much because I didn't have it enough in my childhood.
I love to watch the sunset and have a drink. It gives me so much inspiration and energy: it makes me happy, calm my nerves, and makes me think about the important things in life. Just being in the presence of something beautiful makes me feel better and more connected to myself and my emotions.
3. Calm life
I was living in a big city and I didn't actually like it. It was too fast, too crowdy, too noisy, too dangerous and too lonely. The stress of big cities takes me a lot of energy and I prefer to be far from it. The way of life is slower on the island. People here are more simple and relaxed.
The weather is amazing in Corfu. No need furs, caps, gloves, scarves and other winter stuff. During winter season we mostly wear coats and jacket. There are a lot of sunny days when we enjoy nice weather and drink coffee outside. We don't have snow and speaking about me I like when it's raining. So the rain season is not a problem for me. This period I'm usually very productive and working a lot.
5. Fresh fish and seafood
I like greek food but especially fresh fish and seafood. When you live on the island you can get the most delicious dishes with mussels and shrimps. Fish markets offer you a lot of different types of seafood which you can cook by yourself. However in case you are not good in cooking or just boring and lazy - you can always go to the fish taverna and get everything ready by the schef.
6. Postcard pictures
Island landscapes are the best background for pictures. There are so many places to shoot especially in Corfu. There are not only charming beaches and fantastic nature, but also beautiful town and historical facilities. You can never get bored to create content in such a great place. Most of my friends think that I live a life from magazine covers.
As I told you before there are also many different disadvantages of the island life but let us speak about it next time!
Would it be fair to miss a conversation about swimwear since we are speaking about island life advantages. Every island girl should have a great collection of swimsuits for different occasions. Let's agree that there's nothing like shopping for bikinis and swimsuits to get you in the mood for summer. My favorite brands for swimwear are ASOS, Yamamay and H&M. But most of the times I wear a matching set to express individuality with mix-and-match options.
