Happy February! Today I'm coming to you from the place which I've visited few days ago, The Old Fortress of Corfu (Greek name: Παλαιό Φρούριο). It's the most famous castle in Corfu so I couldn't miss the chance to visit this unique place. The entrance of the Old Fortress is placed just in front of the Liston, near Corfu’s Esplanade. There are the massive bastions (military architecture) and short bridge that links the fortress with the town of Corfu. The large ditch that divides the fortress from the town is used today as a docked for fishing boats. Actually it was an ideal place to create a fortress. Surrounded by the sea, the fortress was in fact used both to defend Corfu town, and to check the near coast.

First we've visited little St George Church. It was built in 1840 by English and later has been adorned with icons coming from St. Spyridon church still present in the old Corfu town. There is a lot of free space next to the church so local people usually bring here their dogs for playing in nature. It has fantastic view to the sea and a lot of sun.

Inside the fortress there are different buildings such as a prison built in 1786 by the Venetians. Later on it was built bigger by the English. As for me it was a big shock to see something like this... It was a dark and cold basement with only one little window and one locked door. When I imagine that there were slaves living inside, I get scared and dolorous.

Not far from the prison you can also visit the military church called “Madonna of Carmini” and an ancient military hospital converted today into a music school. While we were there, some students had exams and we could listen how they was playing classic music. Inside the fortress, near the principal gate there’s the historical archive that gather up more than 6 centuries of Corfu history. Inside this archive there are many old documents and the Corfu Byzantine Collection that includes icons, sculptures and paintings of the Byzantine period.

Even if you're not a big lover of history or culture, you can always enjoy the stunning view from every side of the Old Fortress. Me and Pete have reached the highest point of the fortress - the lighthouse which offers also view overlooking the town of Corfu and the Ionian sea between the island and the mainland.

For visiting historical places in Greece I would recommend you to wear something comfortable and beautiful in one. For example in my case best decision was Peplum Hem Embroidered Blouse and Floral Embroidered Tapered Jeans from Zaful (everything in size M for comfort and a bit of oversize). To make the look more chic and feminine I've added my favorite round bag in new pink color and elegant set of earrings and necklace (present from my family). To tell the truth, I'm obsessed with this outfit cause it's so gentle, cute and noble. Embroidery looks so colorful and charming and gives a feeling of coming soon spring...
